The American Indian Program at Scottsdale Community College, in collaboration with the Indigenous Student Association club, invites all currently enrolled SCC students to create and submit an original design that will be used by the college for marketing and promotional materials. The selected design will support campus visibility, student engagement, and SCC’s commitment to honoring Native American communities and voices.
All submissions should reflect and honor the traditional homelands of the Onk Akimel O’odham (Onk Akimel OH-uh-dahm) and the Xalychidom (hahl-chi-dome) Piipaash (pee-POSH) upon whose land the college is located. The work must clearly align with the contest theme, demonstrating care and intentionality, while remaining culturally respectful and appropriate in representing Native American stories.
The theme for this year’s contest, “Storytelling through Design,” encourages students to explore the deep connections between land, tradition, resilience, community, and education through creative expression. Artwork may draw inspiration from personal experience, learning, or relationships with Native communities.
The winning artwork may be featured in SCC marketing and promotional materials – and could even be printed on apparel sold on campus to reflect students’ identity, culture, and experiences.
In addition to campus-wide recognition, the student whose design is selected will receive a $1,000 award stipend, celebrating both artistic talent and cultural storytelling.
All submissions must be original, culturally respectful, and appropriate for broad campus use. Designs will be evaluated through a structured judging process using an established rubric.
