The Scottsdale Community College (SCC) Planetarium is once again welcoming the public under the dome, offering a new series of free, live astronomy shows this fall as part of its re-opening season. One of the hidden gems of the Valley, the SCC Planetarium is a unique educational space that brings the wonders of the night sky to life—and it’s ready to inspire a new generation of stargazers.
Originally opened in 1991, the SCC Planetarium features a fully analog starball projector, offering a clear and accurate view of the night sky above Scottsdale for any date past or future. The dome theater seats 24 guests and presents all shows as live, interactive experiences, led by astronomy educators. Each event begins with a brief classroom introduction before transitioning into the immersive planetarium environment.
“I want people to leave the planetarium feeling inspired to look up at the night sky,” said Dr. Carver Bierson, SCC Planetarium Director and Astronomy Faculty. “When folks leave, I want them to feel empowered to go outside and see something in the stars they hadn’t noticed before. My hope is to give them a lasting appreciation for the beauty and wonder of the night sky.”
