Scottsdale Community College (SCC) has remodeled its on-campus Artichoke Grill, offering a new, refreshing ambience and drool-worthy cuisine for foodies. The student-run restaurant reopens Sept. 11, 2019 and carries both traditional fare and food for the more adventurous. Diners can enjoy unique cuisine like Korean duck barbeque, sea bass fillet and braised shoulder of lamb. Or, they can pick up good food to go at the grab-n-go counter. A periodic student-inspired buffet offers up a little bit of everything.

The Artichoke Grill is far from the ordinary – catering to a wide variety of customers across the campus as well as the general public – feeding student chefs’ passions and the skill sets they’ll need in the industry. The entrees, soups, salads, desserts and even cocktails all draw a crowd.

The Artichoke Grill is open for lunch Wednesdays through Fridays, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and serves soups, salads, sandwiches, grill items and desserts. Dinner at SCC, featuring stunning four-course meals, is available Wednesdays through Fridays, from 6 to 8 p.m. Check out the menu in advance at the Artichoke Grill website. Reservations are strongly recommended for lunch and required for dinner. To book a table, visit the Artichoke Grill website or phone 480-423-6084.

“The new menus provide our patrons with an added dining value for a multi-course meal, while enabling our students to hone their interpersonal communication skills as they interact with their guests,” said Mark Dow, SCC’s Culinary Arts Program Director. “The guests become active participants as students develop self-confidence in the execution of menu items and in their delivery, providing an exceptional dress rehearsal experience for future careers.”

The restaurant's refresh helped transform the front of house space so students can experience yet another aspect of food service life. A permanent bar places students in a focal area to drive the salesmanship of the grill’s "mocktail" program where students develop their mixology skills.

The revised menu gives students a sampling of what they can expect to be producing in a professional environment – be it in a resort hotel or free-standing restaurant. Patrons can feel good about tipping, too, because all gratuities go toward student scholarships. The Artichoke Grill is one of the rare working classroom environments in the Valley for culinary students.

SCC’s Culinary Arts Program helps train students who wish to become culinary industry professionals for diverse food service operations. Coursework focuses on preparing casual and upscale cuisine for a variety of services, including full-service, buffet, banquet and a la carte, and students rotate through all areas of food preparation. Multiple degree and certificate programs are available in culinary arts, culinary fundamentals, and commercial bakery and pastry arts. Learn more about the culinary program here.
