Scottsdale Community College and the Maricopa County Community College District comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the American with Disabilities Act Amendment of 2008, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability. Reasonable accommodations are established to provide equal access for students with disabilities. SCC is not able to provide an accommodation that requires a fundamental change in a course curriculum or alters an essential element or function of a course/program.
Reasonable accommodations are determined once a student has followed the online affiliation process and met with the DRS office. Accommodations are provided on a course by course basis and students have to elect to use them every semester. Some of the accommodations and services offered to students are:
- Testing accommodations
- Accessible furniture
- Interpreters
- Technology: assistive listening devices, dictation software, and text-to-speech software
- Textbooks in alternative format
- Temporary accommodations for temporary disabilities

Accommodations are not retroactive. Once the DRS has met with a student and determined reasonable accommodations, the student is entitled to services/accommodations from that date forward. It is important to request to use your accommodations each semester, preferably at the beginning of the term.
