Scottsdale Community College’s Career Coaching Program connects students with alumni and community professionals who are committed to supporting the next generation.

Through personalized guidance, career insights, and encouragement, Career Coaches help students explore opportunities, build confidence, and prepare for their future. The program also provides alumni and community professionals with a meaningful way to share their experience and contribute to student success.

Meet our Career Coaches and discover the experience and expertise they bring to SCC students.

Adam Rostan graduated with an Associate of Arts from Scottsdale Community College in 2017, followed by a BA in Filmmaking Practices from ASU’s Herberger School of Design and Arts in 2020. Working as a freelance post-production artist, Adam produced film trailers for director Joe Russo, video profiles for stewards of the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy, and remixed audio for podcasts of all shapes and sizes. After various career pivots and experiences, Adam is excited to lend an empathetic ear and help guide a new generation of filmmakers and storytellers!

Brian Schubert

Brian is a Scottsdale Community College alum and currently serves as VP of Sales and Chief of Staff at AutoIQ, a data-driven automotive marketing company based in Phoenix. Throughout his career, he has held leadership roles spanning sales, marketing, strategy, and operations, with a focus on building teams, solving business challenges, and helping organizations grow.

As an SCC alum, Brian is excited to give back to the community that helped start his own career journey. He looks forward to helping current students explore career opportunities, build confidence in their professional skills, and navigate the transition from college into the working world.

Deborah retired from Banner Health after 33 years January 1, 2026. She started her career at Banner University Medical Center- Phoenix, a 746 bed level one trauma center. Deborah started as a Certified Nursing assistant and while completing her nursing degree at Scottsdale Community College. She has worked as a medical/surgical nurse, trauma intensive care nurse, senior manager of the in/outpatient wound/ostomy department, Ambulatory Clinical Development Professional, and Ambulatory Clinical Educational Specialist. Her last position was a RN Clinical Services Director, covering over 60 ambulatory clinics ensuring all clinical, infection prevention and regulatory requirements are met. This position partners with medical, operational & corporate leaders, to design and implement industry leadership standardization of care. She has advanced certification as a Wound and Ostomy Nurse from Metropolitan State University, Minneapolis, MN. Other current and past certifications: Trauma Nursing Core Course, Pediatrics and Adults Life Support, Critical Care Registered Nurse, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation instructor.

Deborah grew up in California and has lived in Arizona most of her life. She started her nursing career in 1994 with Associate Degree in Nursing from Scottsdale Community College. She was commissioned into the Air Force Reserve Nurse Corps in January 1995 and joined the 944th Medical Squadron at Luke AFB. She has been mobilized to support the Global War on Terrorism four times since 911. First, state side to support the critical care units at 60th Medical Group, Travis Air Force Base CA, and three times overseas to Kuwait, Balad Iraq, and Kandahar Afghanistan.

Her deployed nursing positions consisted of clinical nurse, launch and recovery nurse, charge nurse, Chief Nurse and critical care nurse. As a Critical Care Air Transport Team nurse during her last deployment in Kandahar, she has logged over 138 hours in the KC-135, C- 17 and C-130.

Jeanne Alspaugh

Jeanne Alspaugh participated in Scottsdale Leadership, graduating in 2007 part of “VIVA” class XXI. Since graduation she went on to become a Commissioner with Park and Recreation Department for the City of Scottsdale, serving two full terms (six years total) and two of those years were as Chairperson. Jeanne rejoined the City of Scottsdale as a Tourism Development Commissioner in 2019 for her first term and in 2022 was reappointed. In February of 2024, Jeanne held the position of Chair of the Tourism Development Commission until her departure in 2025 after serving two full terms (six years total).

Jeanne graduated Psi Theta Kappa from Scottsdale Community College in 2012 with Highest Distinction in Applied Sciences/Equine Science.

In 2026, Jeanne was asked to join the Scottsdale Community College Career Coaching program as a Mentor. Leveraging Alumni to help empower, inspire and build success for current students, Mentors work closely with the Career Center Team and the Alumni Coordinator.

Jeanne has a passion for helping folks with challenges find their way toward independence. She gives of her time as a volunteer at Camelot Therapeutic Horsemanship, an organization she has been involved with for over 25 years. Jeanne retired in 2017 from W. W. Grainger, INC. after over 29 years of service and held various roles within the organization ranging from Financial Services to Sales.

Jeanne joined Global Travel Collection (GTC) in 2016. GTC is recognized as one of the world’s leading luxury travel agencies for over thirty years. Jeanne was recently selected to serve on GTC’s first Leisure Advisory Council, responsible for building better connections to the Travel Advisor community. Jeanne brings leadership, passion and integrity to the table as she strives for success.

Jeanne’s passion for involvement in her community is supported and encouraged by her husband. Jeanne’s true inspiration comes from her mom Peggy who overcame terrific challenges late in life and inspires Jeanne everyday.

Kathie May

Kathie May is an accomplished management, training, and organizational development professional with more than 20 years of progressive leadership experience. She has extensive expertise in corporate training and development, program design, needs assessment, mediation, negotiation, database development, focus group facilitation, and strategic marketing and public relations planning.

Throughout her career with the Maricopa County Community College District, Kathie has helped build strong partnerships between community colleges, businesses, industries, and government agencies. She has brokered relationships with more than 400 organizations, negotiated training and development contracts, and coordinated customized education programs designed to meet workforce and organizational needs.

Kathie’s work reflects a deep commitment to adult learning, community engagement, and practical organizational improvement. Her accomplishments include developing corporate leadership programs, designing research tools and information systems, facilitating community mediation, creating marketing and public relations campaigns, and serving as a keynote speaker for professional conferences and community events.

In addition to her professional roles, Kathie has held leadership positions with organizations including the Arizona Costume Institute, Honor Health Advisor Council, Scottsdale Leadership, American Society for Training and Development, the League for Innovation in the Community Colleges, the Phoenix City Club, the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, and Maricopa County Community College District committees. She holds a master’s degree in management with an emphasis in Organizational Development and a bachelor’s degree in Communication with an emphasis in Training, Development, and Management.

Marliss Jefferson

Hi! My name is Marliss Jefferson. I work as a Registered Nurse at Banner University and am a mom of 2! I love to do almost anything active, but my current passion is running! I’m training for my first half marathon THIS December. My road to my degree was unconventional and took a lot of twists and turns, but I got it done and couldn’t be more proud. I am excited to be a career coach at the school that made it all possible for me. I can’t wait to walk alongside you on the journey and support you every step of the way! Go Artichokes!

Dr. Oliva Stull

Dr. Olivia Stull is the founder of Learning with Dr. Liv, LLC and holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. Before starting her own business, she developed educational programs and professional trainings for schools, universities, and nonprofits, translating psychology research into practical, real-world strategies. As a career coach, she believes there isn't one "right" career path, only the one that's the best fit for each individual. She enjoys helping students discover their strengths, explore possibilities, navigate uncertainty with confidence, and build careers that align with who they are rather than who they think they're supposed to be.

Roger Lurie

Roger Lurie brings four decades of experience at Arizona State University, where he served in leadership and consulting roles. Throughout his career, Roger has found his greatest fulfillment in mentoring students and employees - helping them recognize their strengths, build confidence, navigate challenges, and prepare for successful and meaningful careers.

Roger has a deep commitment to coaching and community service. Since 2016, he has volunteered as a career coach with the City of Scottsdale’s Vista del Camino Career Center, working one-on-one with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds as they explore career options, set goals, prepare for opportunities, and move toward the next chapter of their lives. His passion for helping others extends throughout the community. Roger serves as Chair of the City of Scottsdale Human Services Commission and Scottsdale Housing Authority, advocating for programs and resources that support individuals and families. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Partners for Paiute and previously spent seven years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), advocating for children who had been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect.

Outside of his professional and community involvement, Roger enjoys bicycling, swimming, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
