Program Description

Visual design impacts society like never before. It is everywhere and touches everything from product packaging to street signs. Yet, the right foundation, a combination of creativity, technical skills, and theory are what set great designers apart from the rest. SCC offers a comprehensive program in graphic design that can help prepare you for either employment or for additional study in this vibrant and relevant field.

Whether you wish to earn an Associate Degree or are seeking a Certificate of Completion in a specialized area of interest at SCC, you will receive extensive hands-on training in fine art foundations and design principles.

Your creativity is allowed to flourish in small classes where you are provided individual attention with specialized instructors. Interaction with the professional design community is further supported through guest lectures, studio tours, internships, and cooperative education opportunities. Supplementing the curriculum with these real-life experiences provides you with intensive, comprehensive design education.

Upon completion of the graphic design program, it is expected that you will have a portfolio that represents the variety, depth, and strength of your work and problem-solving skills. When you complete the Associate of Arts in Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design, you will also take with you a foundational curriculum that will support your responsibilities in the design industry as you plan, write, estimate, schedule, and communicate in the business world. The associate degree also meets the qualifications for transfer to a university.
