West Side Story

Get ready for an exhilarating night of love, rivalry, and dance as the Scottsdale School of Film+Theatre proudly presents West Side Story. Scottsdale Community College’s talented cast and crew continue their tradition of delivering captivating and diverse musical experiences that leave audiences spellbound.

West Side Story, a timeless classic, is a modern-day adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1950s New York City, the play explores the fierce rivalry between teenage street gangs—the Jets and the Sharks. Amidst the tensions and clashes, Tony, a former member of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the Sharks' leader. Their forbidden romance unfolds amidst tense social and cultural conflicts, ultimately leading to a powerful and memorable climax.

Don K. Williams, SCC’s head of performance and directing, said, "There is no more American Musical than West Side Story. But it's been shaped in stone as a museum piece over time. While we won't be modernizing the time set, we will approach this with an eye toward authenticity in representation, rawness, and passion that will come from the beating heart of today. This is a timeless story of violence, racism, love, loss, acceptance and tragedy. Nothing seems more relevant today than a story like this."

Don't miss your chance to witness the electrifying performances on the following days:
