There are many eLearning options available to students at SCC.
eLearning at Scottsdale Community College encompasses online, hybrid and web-enhanced classes. An ONLINE class is a class that takes place entirely online (you never attend a face-to-face class, but testing may be in person); a HYBRID class mixes online and face-to-face class times, and a WEB-ENHANCED class is one in which you always attend your face-to-face class meetings, but your teacher supports your learning outside of class using Canvas or Maricopa Open Educational Resource Learning System (MOER), or other online tools.
Instructure Canvas and MOER are the learning management system adopted by all Maricopa Community Colleges (except Rio Salado). Online and hybrid typically use Canvas; face-to-face classes may or may not.
eLearning involves knowing how to use the technology, being a self-starter and using your time wisely. If you are interested in determining if online or hybrid learning is right for you, then take the SmarterMeasure survey, which will provide you with valuable feedback on areas that you may wish to focus on when taking online and hybrid classes. These areas include:
- Personal Attributes
- Learning Styles
- Reading Comprehension
- Technical Competency
- Technical Knowledge
- Typing Speed & Accuracy
It only takes 10-15 minutes to complete and gives you instant results. The survey is not designed to exclude students from courses. The survey is designed to provide valuable feedback for the student in regards to their strengths and weaknesses related to online learning. From this feedback, students can work to strengthen their weaknesses and enhance successful learning.
