Due to the SCC campus closure, we are unable to provide food pantry services at this time. Please visit the Maricopa Community Colleges Food Resources page for more options.

Artie’s FIT Market is the food pantry on the SCC campus that was established in March 2019 in response to research that a growing number of community college students are experiencing food insecurity.

The FIT Market provides food-insecure SCC students with a reliable source of food to improve health, happiness and academic success. Because many community college students are impacted by food insecurity issues, SCC wants to make sure all Artichokes have access to balanced, nutritious meals.

Food insecurity

Are you frequently hungry with no money to buy food? Food insecurity can be defined as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy lifestyle.

This can lead to poorer general health and higher levels of depression, anxiety, distress, anger and loneliness. In addition, it can negatively impact student performance in school.

Artie’s FIT Market was established to help hungry SCC students create greater food security, better health, and support them in their academic pursuits.

How it works

To participate, students must be enrolled in at least a 1 credit hour course at SCC. There is no cost to become a student member of Artie’s FIT Market.

Once a student becomes a Market member, you “shop” by choosing the grocery items you want from a wide assortment of food offerings and select nutritional groups.

Market members set up appointments to do their “shopping” and can shop on a weekly basis or as needed throughout the semester.

Getting started

Students who are interested in becoming a FIT Market member should follow these steps:

  1. Make an appointment by phoning (480) 423-6124 or emailing
  2. Fill out a short application and obtain your Market Member ID
  3. Shop for your food that day!

Walk ins are welcome but you might have to wait since Market Member appointments will be honored as a priority.

Students who are interested in helping fight hunger at SCC can volunteer their time in multiple ways.  These include:

  • FIT Market Staff
  • St. Mary’s Shopping Team
  • Food Inventory Team
  • Campus Promotion Team
  • FIT Market Student Leader

Please contact Artie’s FIT Market via phone or email if you are interested.
