The job market in America has shifted and unlike previous years 2020 brings with it an increase in the minimum wage and more job opportunities. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the unemployment rate has fallen to a 50-year low.
SCC’s Academic and Career Advising Department, Business School and Women Rising Club present the Emerging Professionals Seminar Series, designed to help secure employment and thriving careers.
The series offers eight weekly sessions based on the topics, trends and skills anyone looking to enter the workforce, advance in their career or build professional competency should know. Lessons will help participants develop interviewing, online job search and various professional development skills.
Those who attend all eight seminars will receive a Certificate of Participation signed by Scottsdale Community College’s Dean of Students, Academic & Student Affairs.
If one is beginning, in the midst of, or preparing for the job search, the Emerging Professionals training and Professional Development Certification of Participation are beneficial and boost resume credentials. Participants are welcome to attend one or all sessions, which are free and open to the general public.
The Academic and Career Advising Department’s goal is to teach participants how to gain the essential skills employers are currently looking for in the job market. A Forbes article titled, “3 Things You Need to Know about a January Job Search” offered this sage advice. “Go into these initial discussions knowing that you have to remain flexible and might need to adapt your interview strategy based on each interviewer’s priorities. The most important thing is to help each interviewer understand how you would meet their business need and to show that you can handle the position.”
Preparing an interview strategy and understanding how to communicate professionalism is essential. Participants will gain applicable knowledge in these areas during the series. These learning sessions will give you the preparation necessary to effectively share these qualities with hiring managers. Business leaders and HR professionals have partnered with SCC to provide Valley Area insider knowledge and will be present in some sessions to hold practice interviews.
The workshops will be held on Tuesdays from 1:30 p.m. – 2:45 p.m., in the Indigenous Cultural Center (ICC) 216 & 217.
