Career and Technical Education

Stop Dreading Monday

Employers want new hires who can hit the ground running – employees with real-world, hands-on training. Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs combine academic and technical skills with the knowledge and training required to obtain industry-recognized credentials.

Our CTE programs provide workplace competencies in an applied context. As an accredited institution, Scottsdale Community College (SCC) offers high-quality CTE programs that align with industry-validated standards. Work-based learning experiences provide opportunities to apply newly acquired skills.

CTE programs include business and entrepreneurship, architectural technology, computer science and information technology, health sciences, theater arts, digital media, culinary arts, and many more.

These programs are designed for all students: those looking to immediately enter the workforce, those planning to combine academic studies and full- or part-time work, and those seeking to transfer to a four-year university.

What is a Certificate of Completion?

SCC’s CTE programs are often available in the format of a Certificate of Completion (CCL), which range from 3-credit courses (completed in a few short weeks) to 36 total credits (completed in approximately four or more semesters).

Many of these certificate programs provide the necessary credentials for someone to be considered for immediate employment in a specific field. For example, our Desktop Support CCL helps prepare students for positions in entry-level computer maintenance, help desk, and network technician jobs upon completion of the program. A few others include Social Media Marketing, Visual Communication: Design (Graphic Design), and Administration of Justice.

For most of our programs, a Certificate of Completion (CCL) includes the same coursework as an Associate degree, minus the gen-ed requirements. Not only does this expedite your procurement of industry-recognized credentials, but it also means that you’ll have the option of applying your coursework toward an Associate degree if you choose to do so.

Micro-Certifications

Did you know that you can earn credentials quickly by completing one of our micro-certification programs? A micro-cert is a certificate program with 10 or fewer credit hours. Micro-certs are perfect for busy professionals looking to advance their careers, or for those wishing to quickly acquire marketable skills in a new field.

We offer Entrepreneurial Studies and Real Estate: Prelicense programs for business-minded professionals. Those seeking a more creative career path might enjoy our Technical Theater: Stage Crew Technician program.

IT professionals will find dozens of options, from Computer System Configuration & Support, Security, Linux Associate, Microsoft Desktop Associate, Red Hat Linux Engineer, to VMware Foundations and iOS and Web App Development.
