Data Analytics

A large Phoenix-area employer determined its employees would benefit from taking Data Analytics coursework resulting in a Certificate of Completion (CCL). This particular set of courses would be applicable, immediately, to the employees in their day-to-day work and allow them to upskill while on the job. After a few meetings between the employer and SCC’s Data Analytics lead faculty, the team was able to begin the training program in Fall 2020 in an online format. In an effort to provide employee students with as much access to faculty support as possible, a creative solution was provided to the online learning environment: the faculty hosts weekly evening lab classes where employee students can virtually engage with fellow classmates as well as the instructor to discuss challenging concepts and address questions. Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive and plans are in place to repeat the program in Fall 2021. View the Data Analytics video.

Information Technology > Accounting

A national employer with a large presence in the Valley has an IT software development team that works to support a very specialized accounting system within the enterprise. The team wasn’t familiar with the foundational accounting principles upon which the system is geared toward supporting. The team’s lead reached out to see if SCC could create a training program to help fill the gap. The outcome is a 1-credit course that provides enough foundational accounting knowledge to help the team better understand the role their software tools support. SCC’s faculty worked with the team lead to determine competencies and delivery model; the four-week class serves as the solution to this workforce gap.

Essential Skills+

It’s a hot topic: Essential Skills+ are lacking in the workplace. And with the current work-from-home ecosystem, the issue has been exacerbated. Partnering with representatives from an array of employer partners, a working group has established some key soft skills (aka essential skills) required in almost every job setting. This truly customizable training program is geared toward incumbent workers; it will apply to those new to the work world, those high performers on track toward management or leadership roles, or others who simply want to level up in their professionalism. This particular program was imagined and developed with input from valued employer partners to ensure its overarching goal met diverse industry needs.
