About WLG

The mission of the Maricopa Community Colleges Women's Leadership Group (WLG) is to provide for the continuous development of a strong and supportive work environment for the diverse women of the Maricopa Community Colleges.

WLG Goals

  • Advocacy
    Represent the interests of all Maricopa women to the administration and on committees district-wide. Advocate to ensure Maricopa policies serve women?s diverse needs.

  • Communication
    Develop communication channels which will expand, promote, and support cooperation and collaboration between WLG and other groups. Maintain communication between women at all levels in the District regarding WLG activities, issues, and opportunities.

  • Network Opportunities
    Promote meaningful interaction between Maricopa women by providing opportunities for networking to take place.

  • Partnership
    Create partnerships with other District groups which further the interests of women. Utilize college-based groups to accomplish objectives.

  • Personal & Professional Development
    Sponsor learning and mentoring opportunities to enable Maricopa women to improve their skills and advance their careers.

  • Recognition
    Coordinate programs that recognize Maricopa women for leadership, service, and innovation. See "Women of Distinction"

History

Membership

  • Open to all employees from all employee groups within the District.
  • Membership dues are $5.00 per year (July 1 to June 30) payable to WLG. Please deliver payment to your college representative or WLG treasurer by July 1st.

WLG Executive Council

  • Officers: Past Co Chairs; Co-Chairs; Co-Chair Elect; Treaurer/Membership Coordinator; Communication Coordinator, College Representatives and Alternate Representatives; Employee Group Representatives.
  • Qualifications: Willingness to serve.
  • Responsibilities: WLG Executive Council Roles & Responsibilities
  • The Board will direct the activities of the group and approve all major expenditures.
    The treasurer and another officer sign-off on all expenses.
  • All decisions will be made by consensus.
  • The Board will meet at a minimum of six times per year.

WLG Representation

  • One representative per campus and District.
  • One alternate representative per campus and District.
  • Additional representation from Faculty, MAT, PSA, Safety, M&O/Crafts
    appointed by the chair or Board.
  • Ex-officio Governing Board Members, VCs, Presidents, Way Up, and NILD representatives.

Selection

  • Campus or District choice, appointment or election - selection in late spring.
  • Representative one-year term. Ability to repeat.
  • Alternate representative same, perhaps becoming representative a following year.
  • All officers and representatives effective July 1st for succeeding year.
