Veterans Day Nov.11th |
|
Veterans Day You and your guests are invited to the morning Patriotic ceremonies featuring a color guard, various speakers and refreshments. Flyers with details of the ceremonies will be mailed and posted at a variety of conspicuous bulletin boards on campus.
|
Prior Transcripts Reminder |
Official transcripts from any colleges or universities you have attended should be submitted to the Admissions Office and a copy (unofficial or student copy) submitted to Veterans Services. This should include any military transcripts because there are parallels between some military training and academic credits. See the SCC catalog (available on-line) for more details. These transcripts will be used for degree pathway and goal assessment. Veteran Services must provide prior credit to the VA prior to the end of the first semester you are certified. If this is not done, your benefits will be suspended for the following semester.
|
Ordering Military Transcripts |
To order, view or print a copy of your military transcript, log onto www.acenet.edu. You may have to register first to establish a password. Should you need help with this website, contact Veteran Services and we will be glad to assist you. Overall, the process from start to print-out takes about 10 minutes.

GI Bill Tutoring Benefits |
Funds for tutor?s services are available at the rate of $100 per month up to a total of $1,200 maximum. Usually, a demonstrated deficiency with a particular subject will need to be shown in order to use the benefits. Consider a private tutor if you tested into lower level remedial math or english. Note that remedial courses are approved for VA benefits, but do not consume your educational entitlement.
|
Customer Satisfaction Survey |
Beginning January 2004, a survey will be given to new benefits eligible persons at all Maricopa County Community Colleges. This is a state level survey which should be filled out as completely as possible and sent back to the appropriate state agency.

Rate Increase For Benefits Recipients |
According to postings on the Internet, the Educational Assistance Allowance for Chapters 30, 1606/1607, and 35 will be increasing on October 1, 2003. The new rates are posted at www.gibill.va.gov, then click on ?Payment Rates?; or, stop by the VSO for more information. This is being mentioned again in this newsletter because the last newsletter only regarded Chapters 30 and 1606 for the pay increase.
|
Prevent Problems With Benefits |
- Fill out the pay request form completely.
- Report any schedule load changes to the VSO.
- Provide the VSO with copies of all transcripts (military and academic).
- Be aware of ?short-term? and ?fast-track? classes
- Make the monthly verification part of a routine.
- All punitive grades are payable, but extended academic probation will suspend your benefits.
VA policy allows a ?first-time? withdrawal without penalty of required payback of benefits. This ?first-time? means one-time-only for your entire entitlement. An appeal is not necessary to retain your rate of pay to the date of withdrawal. Your benefits will then be paid at the reduced rate to the end of the semester. If you are over paid it is best not to return a benefits check as a method of repayment. VA will recoup overpaid benefits from future months payments.
