Special Education Emergency Certification Classes
The Arizona Department of Education Provisional Cross-Categorical Special Education Teaching Certificate requires:
- Bachelor's degree minimum from an accredited institution
- 45 semester credit hours of education courses from an accredited institution including 21 semester hours of special education courses and 8 semester hours of practicum with students representing at least 3 of the 5 disability areas
- Special education courses shall include:
- survey of exceptional students
- teaching methodologies and strategies for students with disabilities
- foundations course in mild to moderate mental retardation, learning disability, emotional disabilities and physical and other health impairments
- diagnosis and assessment of mild disabilities
- electives in special education
