Welcome to Scottsdale Community College

While some students fear the idea of attending college, there are just as many that look forward to enjoying their college experience.  Many studies have shown that acquiring an education can enhance your self-esteem, and will most likely increase one?s ability to earn more money than less prepared individuals.  A college education can also increase one?s opportunities for professional and social advancement, which can lead to a more fulfilling life style.  Yes, education can change the way you think, process information, and how you understand and interpret the world around you.

Tips for getting the most out of college:

GO TO CLASS and BE ON TIME:  attendance really does have an impact on your grades, and being late is a distraction to the class and the instructor.

When dealing with your instructor, communication is key.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP.

WORK AND LEARN AT YOUR OWN PACE. There?s no need to feel inferior if you don't understand something the first time around; stay calm, try again, listen and ask questions.

DON?T TAKE POLICY ADVICE FROM OTHER STUDENTS.  Check the College catalog and with offices on campus for accurate information.

JOIN A STUDENT CLUB AND PARTICIPATE IN CAMPUS ACTIVITIES. Remember, feeling lonely, frightened and isolated are natural.  But also remember, you are not the only person experiencing these emotions and it will get better with time.

MAINTAIN A POSITIVE OUTLOOK.  Strive to achieve and surpass your dreams.

SEE YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISOR ON A REGULAR BASIS.  It?s critical to make sure you are on track with your academic program, courses, etc.

PAY ATTENTION TO DEADLINES. Missing a deadline could cost you not just money, but grades as well (ex. drop/add, fee payment, course withdrawal).
