How do I know which courses are Service-Learning courses?
Most faculty members who have Service-Learning in their courses will have a notation in the course schedule. Some courses require Service-Learning, others include it as an option.
Where can I do my service? There are many opportunities to perform service in the Phoenix Metro area. The kind of service you do will depend on the course, your instructor's preferences, your own interest, and the availability of a particular placement. Check out the lists of Service-Learning opportunities in the Community Resource Guide. There you will find agencies that have met the MCCCD requirements. If you wish to find an alternative site, please check with your instructor or Margaret Daniels, SCC's Service-Learning Coordinator.
What is the time commitment?
Coordinator The amount of time required varies according to the instructor's expectations, the project, and the needs of the community partner. The most important thing is to make sure that you, your instructor, and your community partner agree on the time commitment before you start your service-learning project. One way to accomplish this is to use the Placement Conformation Form found on the form page.
My instructor says I need to turn in the Assumption of Risk & Release of Liability Agreement & Placement Conformation Form, where can I find these forms?
All of the service-learning forms can be found online on the Forms page. Be sure to check with your instructor for deadlines and any additional forms you may need for class.
Can I continue my service after the term is over?
Most of the community partners would love to have your continue your service after the course or class assignment is over. Check with your site supervisor to find out how.
