Turnitin.com is an online resource for educators and students concerned with developing quality writing and research skills by:

  • Providing a reliable, efficient, and powerful deterrent to digital plagiarism
  • Hosting an online interface for convenient and innovative peer-to-peer review
  • Allowing for online grading with full contextual markup, use of rubrics, and quickmarks
  • Providing instructors the ability to aggregate student works into digital portfolios

User Instructions

  • For Faculty:
    • To get your UserID and Password to access turnitin.com, click here.
    • To access the Instructor Quickstart instructions, click here.
      These instructions will take you, step by step, through the process of how to add this feature to your courses. (If you prefer to cut and paste the address into your browser's address bar, here is the URL:  http://www.turnitin.com/static/pdf/tii_instructor_qs.pdf )
    • A PowerPoint presentation (in HTML format) is also available for viewing. To view the presentation, click here.
    • Students need an email account of some kind to use this service. Yahoo or Hotmail, or other web-based e-mail is sufficient.
    • Remember, after you set up your class, you will receive a class enrollment ID, which you need to give to your students for them to access the site.
    • If you plan to use revisions on any paper during the semester, you need to set the draft function within turnitin.com. Otherwise, if your students' papers are redone, it will look as if they are all plagiarized.
