Step 1 Review the variety of Course "Flavors" at SCC. Consider which "flavor" you want to develop. If you decide to create some type of Internet Instruction, this guide will assist you in getting started. It is important to know that Internet course development and delivery is not for all instructors.
Step 2 Consider the challenges and demands of Internet instruction. The Self-Evaluation Questionnaire for Faculty will help you to reflect on your teaching style, expectations, and technical skills and to determine which Internet course "flavor" best suits you.
Step 3 Consider the benefits of Online Instruction – both to you and your students. Review Benefits of Online Teaching, which is geared towards instructors considering developing and teaching a fully online course.
Step 4 If you decide you want to develop a fully online or a hybrid course (with reduced classroom time), approval from your Division Chair and the Dean of Instruction is needed. The Request for Online or Hybrid Course Approval form will guide you through the process of gathering and documenting the necessary information.
Step 5 Review the Course Content Recommendations for your preferred course "flavor". Included are the "menu" options as well as recommended content for each one of these options that you may want to included in your Blackboard course web site.
Step 6 Refer to the Internet Instructor Learning Roadmap to identify the resources available to support you through your "journey."
Step 7 Request the appropriate Blackboard Quick Start Template from the IT Help Desk. These templates contain tips, tools, and content to help you "Quick Start" your course in Blackboard.
Step 8 Review the Course Quality Checklist to identify some important considerations in designing and developing your Online or Hybrid course and go for it!
