Semantic Encoding

Getting verbal information into memory by translating it into a memory code consisting of the meanings of the letters and/or words. For example, look at the following word list:

hay key pig dog

Semantic encoding of this word list might consist of the following: visualizing yourself unlocking a barn door with a key, and seeing a dog inside chasing a pig around a bale of hay.
