Phobia

A persistent and irrational fear of an object, situation, or activity. To be considered "irrational," the degree of fear must be much greater than is warranted by the actual danger posed by the object, situation, or activity. Furthermore, except in cases of young children, the person must realize to some extent that the amount of fear is unwarranted by the actual danger.
