Valid Observation

An observation that accurately measures the degree to which individuals exhibit the characteristic indicated by the concept being investigated. For example, a valid measure of intelligence (an "IQ test") is one that accurately reflects the degree to which individuals exhibit the characteristic indicated by the concept of intelligence.
