Sensory MemoryA subsystem of the Standard Model of Memory at the preconscious level (and perhaps unconscious level, according to the psychoanalytic approach), that consists of five "sensory registers," with one register for each of the five major senses. Each register maintains a copy of a perception at the preconscious level for a very brief period of time: less than one second for visual information and up to about two seconds for auditory information. See: short-term memory, working memory, and long-term memory |
