Determinism

The doctrine that all events are caused by a prior sequence of events.

In psychology, determinism refers to the assumption that all mental events and behavior are caused by prior events — that there are no freely chosen mental events or behaviors (no free will). The assumption of determinism is fundamental to scientific psychology.
