Confounded VariablesVariables that are mixed together to such an extent that it is impossible to distinguish their independent effects on another variable. For example, in many studies, sexual identity (whether an individual is physically a male or female) and early-childhood experiences (how parents and others treat a boy relative to a girl) are confounded to such a degree that it becomes impossible to distinguish their independent effects on personality traits or behaviors. |
