Students may choose one class or two classes from Contemporary Cinema and Political Ideologies or Photography and Drawing.  Students must register at the college indicated.

HUM 210/ THE210: Contemporary Cinema                                  (Offered through SCC)

The Czech Republic has a rich history of producing prolific and talented filmmakers.  Students enrolled in this program in Prague will learn about Czech film from the people who live in this evolving and complex society.  The culturally rich city of Prague is a Mecca for artists, musicians and intellectuals and provides a stimulating backdrop for this study.  Numerous visits to sites of historical, cultural and architectural interest are scheduled.  Prerequisites: Instructor?s Approval.  This course can be taken alone or in conjunction with POS 210: Political Ideologies.

Prague_Poli_SciPOS 210 Political Ideologies                                           

(Offered through PVCC)

The Czech Republic will offer students an ideal venue to study the political ideologies and movements of the 20th century and learn how these ideologies have shaped the contemporary political landscape.  In conjunction with the study of Fascism, Communism and Democracy, students will hear first hand from guest lecturers who witnessed Prague Spring of 1968 and The Velvet Revolution of 1989.  There will be ample time to explore this old and well-preserved city, to take in its many cultural and historic offerings.  Prerequisites: Instructor's Approval.  This course can be taken alone or in conjunction with HUM/THE 210: Contemporary Cinema.

ART 111: Drawing I/ ART 298AC: Special Projects                      

(Offered through GWCC)

This is a studio course taught in Prague where students will learn about drawing concepts and related vocabulary, art criticism, and art history as well as training in freehand drawing, exploration of different drawing techniques and mediums, and growth of personal expression and problem solving.  Students selecting ART 298AC will consult with the instructor and select a discipline-related project to be completed as an independent study.  This class will balance the historical perspective seen in Prague?s architectural sites, museums and art collections with a schedule that allows time to experience Czech life-style and culture.  Prerequisites: Instructor?s Approval.  This course can be taken alone or in conjunction with ART 142/ART 143/ART 290.

ART 142: Introduction to Digital Photography/ ART 143: Intermediate Digital Photography/

ART 290AC: ?Special Emphasis: Advanced Photography?  

(Offered through SCC)

Students will learn and practice digital and film-based photographic techniques inspired by Prague?s magnificent art and architecture.  During our four-week course of study in the Czech Republic, we will be immersed in photographing contemporary Czech lifestyle and culture in the context of the Czech historical perspective.  For the final project, each student will create a body of photographs in the form of a completed photo book which records the effect of their travels on their academic and artistic growth.  Prerequisites: Instructor?s Approval.  This course can be taken alone or in conjunction with ART 111/ART 298AC.
