Course Description

* To provide additional exposure to various parts of the Internet, including the World Wide Web, Email, Social Issues, Plug-ins, Downloaded files, Browser Maintenance, Advanced Searching, Multimedia, and Terminology

Textbook and Supplies

We have only 10 class periods so it is VERY IMPORTANT not to miss class. There will be some assignments that must be completed in either the Computer Lab or at home if you have access to the Internet and a printer.  If you intend to drop the course, it is your responsibility to process the required paperwork.

Computer Lab

The computer lab is on the west side of the Business building, room BU 133W. Acquaint yourself with lab policies and regulations.

Attendance 100 pts. 
Grading Scale:
A = 90 to 100% 
Homework 100 pts. B = 88 to 89%
Final Presentation 100 pts. C = 70 to 79% 
Total 300 pts. D = 0 to 69% 
F = Non-attendance 

General Schedule
Note: This is an approximate schedule. Depending on the progress of the class, any of this schedule can change as deemed necessary or as required. Various handouts will be available during the course.

Week 1
Introduction, Student Skills Assessment, Review Browsers (Netscape and Internet Explorer)
Create a hotmail e-mail account to be used in class, create signature file, attach a file to e-mail
Spam Mail and Virus Checkers
Understanding Plug-Ins and Multimedia

Week 2
Set Browser Preferences, Manage Cache file and download files using Windows Explorer
Download files from the Web
Copy clip art from the Web for personal use, Use 3 1/2 inch floppy disk
Homework, copy 3 clip art images, print and hand  these in (do NOT have to be printed in color)
Very important to direct file to the proper area on the P.C (usually the desktop).
Identify subject for final presentation

Thursday
Searching the Web, Bring topic to "stump" the class
Homework - Find five different web pages on five topics of interest, print one page of each site and turn in next Tuesday.
To print one page, click File on the Menu bar, click Print, in Print Range, click the radio button for Pages and type
in 1 to 1.   More than one page printed will result in fewer points on the assignment.

Week 4
Tuesday, Create Chat Room and chat in class on Yahoo Chat or MSN Chat
Thursday,  Streaming Media and other Multimedia

Week 5
Tuesday,  Understanding FTP and other terminology's,
View HTML and Create Web Page(s)
Thursday, Wrap Up and Class discussion
