Interior Design students will study the development of architecture, interiors and decorative arts in London and Paris from the Middle Ages to Post-Modern times. They will explore similarities and differences in the English, French and American aesthetic. Students will be responsible for research prior to departure and compiling a final presentation of their observations upon return.
Students will stay in the heart of London, the largest city of the European Union, within walking distance of St. Paul?s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey and only a metro ticket away from major cultural centers. London is the seat of the British Empire and its many colonies are seen in decorative items throughout the city. London will host the 2012 Olympics ? the only city to have hosted the games three times.
Travel to France will be via the Chunnel, which is the English nickname for the Channel Tunnel (in French it is called le tunnel sous la Manche). It runs from the Straits of Dover to Sangatte in northern France. The $21 billion investment has paid off with a popular, high-speed Eurostar transportation between England and France.
Students will stay in the vibrant Les Halles District in the heart of Paris and within walking distance of many of Paris? world-renowned historic sites and museums: Norte Dame Cathedral, Sacre Coeur, Musee du Louvre, and Le Centre Pompidou. Of special interest will be a visit to eSag, a prominent French school of graphic arts, where Maricopa students will interact with French and European interior design students.
