What are Scottsdale Community College entrance requirements?
Any high school graduate, GED recipient or anyone over 18 regardless of prior education may enroll.
Do I have to have a social security number to attend SCC?
No, students do not have to have a social security number to attend SCC. Student with out a social security number will be issued an identification number that is to be used during their career at SCC.
Do I have to be a United States citizen to attend SCC?
No, the Maricopa Community College District cannot discriminate nor refuse admittance to anyone wishing to attend any of the Maricopa colleges based on their residency status.
When should I apply to admission?
Student information forms are accepted any time. Apply on-line (or download forms) via the Admissions and Records page.
What if I haven?t decided on a major?
Many students haven?t selected a major when then enter college. Scottsdale Community College is an excellent place to explore options. Counselors, Advisors and the Career Center are available to help you set academic and career goals.
When should I meet with an advisor?
Every student should go to the Advisement Center before registering, and should continue to meet with an advisor each semester prior to registration.
Can I take classes while I?m still in high school?
Yes, however special admissions is required. Contact Elizabeth Ketterman, Director of Early Outreach, to learn more about Concurrent Enrollment and our A.C.E. (Achieving College Excellence) program.
Will I need to take an entrance exam?
ACT or SAT scores are not required for admission. Skills assessments are required of all entering students in order to determine which classes are best suited for the individual student. English as a Second Language assessments are also available. Visit the Testing Center for more information.
Will my credits transfer to a university?
If your goal is to obtain a university degree, advisors will assist in selection courses which will be accepted at Arizona public universities and most public and private universities in other states.
What if I?ve been out of school a long time?
May SCC students have returned to college as adults. We provide a lot of support to make adapting to college easier. We have a math tutor center, writing center and a social behavioral studies lab. We also have great programs like the Adult Re-Entry Program and Senior Adult Educational Program to help you make the transition back to college.
When do classes start, and how long do they last?
Semesters begin in late mid August and mid-January. Accelerated summer sessions start in May, June and July. There are also late starting credit and no-credit classes offered throughout the year. Fall and spring semesters each last 16 weeks.
Financial Assistance
Are financial assistance & employment available?
Financial assistance is offered through loans, grants and scholarships. Campus work-study employment and off-campus employment assistance are available to qualified students. Please visit the Financial Aid page for additional information.
When should I apply for financial aid?
Financial aid is available throughout the year, but those who apply early have the best chance of receiving priority funding.

Class Schedules and Catalogs
Class schedules are available on the web and in bins on campus, in almost all high schools in the district area, as well as, in other pick-up locations throughout Scottsdale and surrounding areas.
Classes and Degree Programs
Do all good jobs require a four-year degree?
There are many rewarding careers which only require a two-year degree or certification, which can be obtained in even less time. Occupational degrees and certificates may only be obtained through a, community college like SCC, or a more expensive trade school.
What degree programs are available?

What if I?m interested in getting skills, rather than a degree?
Not every program at SCC leads to a degree. We have may certificate programs that can give you the skills you need for immediate employment in one year or less. In addition, SCC offers both credit and non-credit classes and seminars for people looking to upgrade their skills.

I have a full-time job. What programs are available for me?
Many of our students are working adults. Day, evening or weekend classes make it easy to fit classes around work schedules. Many degree programs can be completed by taking classes in the evening. |
