Communication as a Major

(9/99)

Many students often ask the question, "What can you do with a communication degree?"  Possible career paths are many, including areas of law, human resources, health care management, public relations, media, and social work to name a few.  Your SCC communication instructors all have earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in the area, and they can be immensely helpful in helping you decide how a major in communication or further study in the area could be a help to you.

Study of American's Communication Habits

(2/99)

Do you prefer talking with others face-to-face or on the telephone?   Does the thought of giving a speech frighten you?  Is this a normal reaction?  These questions and more are addressed in a recent study by Roper Stauch Worldwide.  The work was commissioned by the National Communication Association, a professional organization of communication scholars and educators.  You may find the results quite interesting.  The entire study is available at the NCA website.

Com Faculty Get New Home!

(1/99)

The communication faculty have moved into new facilities in the Language and Communication (LC) building. The SCC Communication and Performance Arts Department consists of three distinct programs:  Speech Communication, Theatre, and Film/TV.  Faculty members from the Speech Communication and Film/TV programs have moved into the new LC building.  Offices, classrooms, and performance spaces for the Theatre program can be found in the Performing Arts Center complex.  The department falls under the purview of the Fine Arts Division, which also includes the Music Department and the Art Department.  The Fine Arts Division Office is located in the music building.  (See SCC campus map)
