Scottsdale Community College Technology Plan
The mission of the Scottsdale Community College Ocotillo Committee is to support the technological needs of the college. The responsibility of the committee is to develop and monitor a plan to establish priorities regarding the acquisition, maintenance, and support for use of technology at Scottsdale Community College. The plan:
- will be consistent with the Scottsdale Community College Mission Statement and Strategic Plan.
- must be flexible to allow for technological developments and for evolving needs.
- should specify an annual evaluation of technology at Scottsdale Community College in relation to standards across the United States, as well as student and employee satisfaction.

I. Instructional Technology - Dan Combellick
Instructional Technology is the theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management, and evaluation of products and processes for learning.
GOAL A: Instructional technology will be provided in all classrooms.
Objective 1: The current status of technology resources in each classroom will be determined.
Objective 2: Classrooms will have a minimum technology installation to include a networked computer, data/video projection system, VCR, overhead transparency projector and whiteboard.
Objective 3: A plan to upgrade existing classrooms to minimum technology standards will be developed.
Objective 4: Portable computers, projection systems, VCRs, screens, and other equipment will be available for check-out.
GOAL B: A center for the preparation of media materials will be established
Objective 1: Current support resources for the preparation of media materials will be reviewed.
Objective 2: A policy defining the resources and support available to faculty for the creation of instructional materials will be developed.
Objective 3: A process for the creation of instructional materials for faculty will be developed.
GOAL C: Distance learning opportunities will be provided for SCC students.
Objective 1: A subcommittee with cross-discipline representation will be created to develop a mission statement regarding the use of distance learning technologies.
Objective 2: Distance education offerings consistent with the mission statement will be developed.
GOAL D: The Institutional Research Office will provide resources to assist in evaluation and planning for instructional technology.
Objective 1: The types of reports and documentation available through the Institutional Research office will be identified.
II. Equipment and Software Allocations - Steve Mutz
GOAL A: A philosophy for allocation of computers, equipment and software to accommodate all instructional programs and support areas will be developed.
Objective 1: A mission statement will be prepared outlining the philosophy of equipment and software priorities.
GOAL B: A process for allocating computers, equipment and software to accommodate all instructional program and support areas will be developed and implemented.
Objective 1: The current system of allocation will be reviewed and evaluated.
Objective 2: A system of allocation with a feedback/evaluation component will be recommended.
Objective 3: Technology-related capital requests which relate to course competencies or support area function; and include a training plan, implementation plan, evidence of capability, and evidence that the level of technology is appropriate; will be given preference.
Objective 4: A process for re-allocating equipment and/or relocating classrooms to fully utilize existing technology related equipment will be developed.
Objective 5: An effort will be made to use common technology/software for common applications campus-wide.
Objective 6: An effort will be made to share site licenses and workstations between departments and divisions, for common technology needs.
GOAL C: Convenient access to technology for adjunct faculty will be provided.
Objective 1: The technology needs of the adjunct faculty will be determined.
Objective 2: Adequate technology will be provided for the adjunct faculty.
III. Maintenance, Upgrades and Security -
GOAL A: A system will be developed to support the timely upgrade, maintenance and replacement of technology hardware and software.

Objective 3: A system will be developed to support the timely maintenance of technology hardware.

IV. Training and Informing the Campus - Emma Walters
GOAL A: Appropriate training and support in the development and use of technology will be provided.
Objective 1: A fully developed and equipped training center will be established.
Objective 2: Training will be provided on new software, hardware, and classroom equipment.
Objective 3: Faculty and staff will be encouraged to take advantage of the training center.
Objective 4: Secretaries will be trained to an appropriate level of proficiency with SCC supported desktop software.
GOAL B: Updated information will be disseminated to the campus community in a timely manner.
Objective 1: A Technology Newsletter will inform the campus of what is happening with technology at SCC including training schedules, local seminars, conferences, new classrooms, etc.
Objective 2: More opportunities to demonstrate technology applications will be established, especially during the time just prior to the capital request deadline.
V. Student Services and Support Services - Yira Thorne
GOAL A: SCC will be in compliance with federal regulations related to technology and students with disabilities.
Objective 1: Appropriate computer technology assistance and/or access for students with disabilities will be provided throughout the campus. (including computer labs, writing labs, library, and equivalent off-campus locations).
GOAL B: All Student Services and Support Services departments will have electronic access to required off-campus services
Objective 1: Financial Aid personnel will be provided with electronic access to appropriate federal agencies.
Objective 2: Career Guidance software which monitors current career and job market information, will be upgraded annually.
Objective 3: The Veterans Services Office will be electronically linked to the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Objective 4: The SCC student information/advisement system will be integrated with the Arizona University systems to improve advisement of students.
Goal C: Technology will be updated in Student Services areas to provide a level of service expected by students and the college.
Objective 1. Department managers and budget allocators will take necessary steps to secure needed technology in student services areas; including Veterans Affairs, Adult Re-Entry Services, Marketing/Public Relations, Financial Aid, Honors Program, Admissions and Records, Athletics, Couseling, Student Activities, High School Outreach, Advisement, College Safety, Career Planning & Placement, International Education, American Indian Programs, Senior Adult Education, and The Child Enrichment Center.
GOAL D: Student Services information will be accessible through electronic means.
Objective 1: One or more centrally-located Electronic Information centers will be provided for easy access to Student Services information.
Objective 2: The feasibility of a complete directory assistance service (via the SCC home page) will be evaluated.
Objective 3: Students will be able to apply for admission, drop/add, pay fees, confirm their schedule, request a transcript, view their student account, apply for financial aid, and check their financial aid status (with appropriate security) via electronic access.
Objective 4: An electronic bulletin board, with timely Student Services news flashes, will be accessible via the web site.
GOAL E: Student access to technology in Student Service areas will be increased.
Objective 1: The Testing Center will have adequate workstations and licenses to accommodate computerized testing needs.
Objective 2: The rules and policies regarding educational computer use will be posted at all student access points.
Objective 3: Technological "blocking" to prevent misuse of computer workstations and of accessed information will be investigated.
Objective 4: A centralized computer lab will be established for students under the direction of Student Services departments.
VI. Campus Infrastructure - John Silvester
GOAL A: SCC facilities (classrooms, labs, offices, etc.) will be wired for network access.
Objective 1: A schedule will be established for the wiring of facilities.
GOAL B: Policies and procedures will be implemented for infrastructure (voice and data) maintenance, including "adds", "moves", and "changes".
Objective 1: Necessary steps to evaluate and complete adds, moves and changes will be determined.
