Scottsdale Community College Yoga Program Presents Free Yoga Day – August 15
Scottsdale, AZ (July 22, 2009) – Give yourself the gift of health! Com e to SCC’s Free Yoga Day on Saturday, August 15, 2009 from 8am – 12pm. And mark your calendars for SCC’s second annual Yoga Intensive September 11-13, 2009. Both events will take place at the college campus at 9000 E. Chaparral Rd. in Scottsdale.
Yoga Day – Saturday, August 15
Classes for SCC’s Free Yoga Day will be held in the SCC Fitness Center. Certified, degreed instructors will guide participants through a variety of yoga classes, including:
- Beginning Yoga – 8am-9:15am
- Restorative Yoga – 9:15am-9:45am
- Sun Salutations – 9:30am-10am
- Pranayama Yoga (the art of yogic breathing) – 9:45am-10:45am
- Back bends – 10:00am-11:30am
- Meditation – 10:45am-11:15am
- Q&A for Teacher Training program – 11:30am-12:00pm
Yoga Day participants are encouraged to register in advance as space is limited. Yoga mats, blankets, straps, and blocks are provided. Wear comfortable clothes. Participants do not need to be a current student to participate.

Weekend Yoga Intensive – September 11-13
Yoga opportunities continue as SCC hosts a special Weekend Yoga Intensive September 11-13 featuring guest instructor Carolyn B elko.
Belko is a certified Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher and is the Director of the Iyengar Yoga Center of North County, San Diego, CA. Belko is a member of the Iyengar Yoga Teacher-in-Training Program of Southern California, and studies annually in France with her teacher Mr. Faeg Biria. She has taken month-long sabbaticals in Pune, India studying with Mr. Iyengar (who turns 91 in December) and his family.
This special workshop is open to those with one year previous yoga experience. Those who are new to Iyengar Yoga are encouraged to attend. The cost for the entire workshop is $140.

About SCC’s Yoga Teacher Training Program
SCC’s Yoga program provides a unique, high quality Yoga Alliance approved Teacher Certification program, as well as a wide variety of general yoga classes for beginning and advanced students and those wishing to deepen their practice of yoga.
Students in SCC’s Yoga Teacher Certification program are trained in Yoga philosophy and history, biomechanics, anatomy, detailed postural alignment, therapeutics and the art of teaching Yoga. The program covers principles of the breath, meditation, sequencing, observation, verbal and physical adjustments, postural demonstration, use of voice and organization of course curriculum.
