Yoga Teacher Training Takes Center Stage at Scottsdale Community College

 

~Special events and guest instructors usher in exciting fall semester class lineup ! ~

Scottsdale, AZ (July 30, 2008) – Give yourself the gift of health!  Come to SCC’s Free Yoga Open House on Saturday, August 9, 2008 -- and mark your calendars for SCC’s first-ever Yoga Intensive on September 19, 20 and 21, 2008.  Both events will take place at the SCC campus – 9000 E. Chaparral Rd., Scottsdale. 

 

Free Yoga Open House – Saturday, August 9

Classes for SCC’s Free Yoga Open House will be held in the SCC Fitness Center.  Certified, degreed instructors will guide participants through a variety of yoga classes, including:

  • Beginning Yoga – 8am-9:15am in room FW 501
  • Pranayama Yoga (the art of yogic breathing) – 8:00 – 8:50am in room FW 502
  • Power Yoga – 9:30am – 10:20am in room FW 501
  • Yoga Therapy for the Low Back – 9am – 10:15am in room FW 502
  • Gentle Yoga with Modifications –10:30am – 11:20am in room FW 501
  • Intermediate Yoga – 10:30am – 12:00pm in room FW 502
  • Teacher Training Informational Meeting – 12:00pm in room FW 502

Yoga Open House participants are encouraged to register in advance as space is limited.  Yoga mats, blankets, straps and blocks are provided.  Wear comfortable clothes.  Participants do not need to be a current student to participate.

Weekend Yoga Intensive – September 19, 20 and 21

Yoga opportunities continue as SCC hosts a special Weekend Yoga Intensive on September 19, 20 and 21st featuring guest instructor Carolyn Belko.  Belko is a certified Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher and is the Director of the Iyengar Yoga Center of North County, San Diego, CA.  A member of the Iyengar Yoga Teacher-in-Training Program of Southern California, Belko studies annually in France with her teacher Mr. Faeq Biria, and has taken month-long sabbaticals in Pune, India studying with Mr. Iyengar (who turns 90 in December) and his family.  This special workshop is open to those with one year previous yoga experience.  Those who are new to Iyengar Yoga are encouraged to attend.  The cost for the entire workshop is $130.  For more information on the Intensive, and to register, contact Carlyn Sikes at (480) 423-6771 or carlyn.sikes@sccmail.maricopa.edu

 

SCC’s Yoga Teacher Training Classes

Yoga Teacher Training is gearing up for the fall semester.  Yoga classes start Aug 23 for the fall semester.  A class schedule can be viewed online at www.scottsdalecc.edu/yoga.  A new addition to the lineup is Yoga Philosophy 3 -- a hybrid-online course that meets four times and is completed independently and online.
