Sacramento, CA and Scottsdale, AZ (October 28, 2009) – e.Republic’s Center for Digital Education and Converge Magazine have announced the winners of their 5th Annual Digital Community Colleges Survey. Scottsdale Community College and other colleges across the country have been named leading community colleges offering exceptional technology support to students and educators.
The survey addressed multiple areas in digital technology, including online registration, distance learning, tutoring and advisory services; technology training for students and faculty; and Web 2.0 social and collaborative capabilities. SCC’s award was based on the college’s total approach of leveraging technology to support students and educators in various ways.
“SCC is very proud to be recognized as a leader in leveraging technology to support our students, faculty and staff,” said Dustin Fennell, SCC’s Chief Information Officer. “Not only has SCC done an outstanding job of implementing meaningful technology, but everyone has done a great job of using technology to increase student success.”
Community Colleges were placed in three categories based on size of enrollment for the 2008-09 academic year. College officials supplied answers to survey questions, and the top colleges in each of the enrollment categories were selected. SCC tied for 9th place in the Large College category (more than 7,500 students). View the full list of winners at http://tiny.cc/hInZg.
“Community colleges, year after year, impress us as forward thinking and quick to adapt,” said Marina Leight, vice president of the Center for Digital Education. “Our survey results show overwhelmingly that community colleges are fast embracing cyber technologies used by ‘First Digitals’ fostering collaboration in learning by using tools students are familiar with. Those institutions chosen as this year’s top community colleges are exceptional examples of this investment in learning.”
