Running & Winning at SCC

“Running & Winning” – Community Leaders and Elected Officials Share their Wisdom with Scottsdale Community College Students

Scottsdale, AZ (October 22, 2009) – On November 4, 2009 Scottsdale Community College students will get the chance to meet leaders who have run for and won public office. Running & Winning is a nationally recognized program that introduces young women to exciting and rewarding roles in public service. The program describes the electoral process and encourages students to see themselves as leaders as well as informed citizens.

Ten community leaders and elected officials are scheduled to participate in the Running & Winning program at SCC on November 4, 2009.  The program will be held in the Turquoise Room in the Student Center (SC) from 6:00 – 8:30pm.  Scottsdale Community College is located at 9000 E. Chaparral Rd., Scottsdale.

Working in teams of five or six, the SCC students will interview several women who have run for and won a public office.  These women serve on school boards, city councils, and in the Arizona Legislature.  Students will learn why women run for office and how they prepared for the leadership position.  Students are encouraged to ask the officials about their experiences as candidates and office holders. Each group will have a trained facilitator, an AAUW Scottsdale member, to assist with this process.

Following is a list of community leaders and elected officials who will participate in the Running and Winning program at Scottsdale Community College on November 4, 2009:
