Marshall Trimble Receives Achievement Award

Scottsdale Community College Educator ~ Marshall Trimble ~ Honored with

Lifetime Achievement Award by Arizona Office of Tourism

~ As the State?s Official Historian, Trimble tells the story of Arizona through Education and Entertainment ~

Scottsdale, AZ (August 14, 2007) ? Marshall Trimble, the State?s Official Historian, wears many ?hats? to tell the story of Arizona (yes, while actually sporting his signature cowboy hat).  Trimble has been Arizona?s Historian for over a decade, an educator at Scottsdale Community College for over 30 years, and an entertainer for even longer.

Regardless of the ?hat? Trimble has worn over the years, he always spends time telling the story of Arizona through his folk singing, poetry, published books, community presentations, fundraising efforts, and his entertaining lectures in the classroom at SCC where he has inspired countless students with his stories of the Wild West, a fascinating cast of historical characters, and the many true tales and myths of Arizona?s bygone days.

?I?m a teacher first,? states Trimble with a big smile as he shares the adventures of his years teaching Arizona History at SCC and the fun exchanges with his students.

Last month Trimble was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Arizona Office of Tourism for his lifelong dedication and service to the state of Arizona.  This is the first time the Office of Tourism has presented an award in this category.

?We couldn?t fit our next awardee into one category, so we made a special category for him,? said Margie Emmermann, Executive Director for the Arizona Office of Tourism, as she presented the award to Trimble on stage.  ?It?s the story of my life,? chuckles Trimble. ?I never fit in any one category,? -- as he fondly reminisced about the many experiences and adventures that make up his very colorful life.

?Marshall is an outstanding statesman and ambassador for Scottsdale Community College," said Arthur DeCabooter, Scottsdale Community College president.  ?He is unwavering in the time and commitment he gives to the state virtually every day of his life.  Marshall sets the standard.?

Trimble is the Director of SCC?s Southwest Studies Program, teaches Arizona History, and has written more than 19 books on Arizona history ? with a new one on his hometown of Ashfork, Arizona in the works.  He writes for magazines such as Arizona Highways, True West magazine, and AZ360 magazine.  He has appeared on many radio and television programs, but prefers the live audience when he performs.  He visits elementary schools, and serves as the state's Goodwill Ambassador for conventions.

Trimble was inducted into the Scottsdale Hall of Fame, and the Arizona Veteran?s Hall of Fame.  He recently received an Emmy award for his television show ? Arizona Back Roads.

Congratulations Marshall on this well-deserved honor.
