SCC's Clothesline Across Campus

Scottsdale Community College Students, Faculty, and Staff Build a ?Clothesline Across Campus? to Support the Efforts of Vista Del Camino Community Center

~ Scottsdale citizens facing financial crisis to receive clothes, shoes and household items from Annual Campus Clothesline ~

Scottsdale, AZ (September 11, 2007) ? For the 7th consecutive year, Scottsdale Community College will build a ?Clothesline Across Campus? to benefit the citizens in Scottsdale who rely on the support services provided by Vista Del Camino Community Center during hard times.

Clothes, shoes, household items and more will be collected at SCC?s Campus Clothesline starting on Monday, September 17, and will be delivered to Vista del Camino on the last day?Thursday, September 20.

Vista del Camino Community Center, a City of Scottsdale support agency, provides Scottsdale residents facing financial crisis with emergency food boxes, a clothing bank, career center, a job preparation program, and more.  SCC does its part every year to help Vista Del Camino replenish their collection of clothes, shoes and household items by hosting the Clothesline Across Campus.

?This project gives students an incredible opportunity to connect with their greater community,? said Becky Bradley, Director of Student Life & Leadership at Scottsdale Community College.  ?Students see firsthand how small actions can help out in a big way.  It doesn?t take much of an effort to pull something out of your closet, but it can make all the difference in someone?s life.?

From Monday, September 19, 2007 until Thursday, September 20, 2007, the Campus Clothesline will be strung far and wide in the large central grassy area of the college called the ?Center Green?.  Students, faculty, staff and citizens are encouraged to clean out their closets and bring new or gently used clothing and household item donations to the Campus Clothesline during college hours.  By the end of the day on the 20th, the clothesline will be filled to the brim with clothes to fit all ages, and the laundry baskets below will be filled with shoes, household items, and anything that a family may need.

?Hanging the items is a very visual way for students, faculty and staff to see the need for citizens to support the less fortunate in our own community, said Jorge Rodriguez, Program Advisor for Student Life & Leadership. ?We encourage everyone to bring their items to campus, hang them on the line with the clothespins provided, and help us gather items to donate before the winter season.?

Items pinned to the Campus Clothesline will be packed up by 5pm on September 20th and taken to Vista Del Camino.
