SCC Hosts National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Event
~ Scottsdale Community College students join together to learn about the risks of drinking
and driving ~
Scottsdale, AZ (October 15, 2007) ? Scottsdale Community College will host an alcohol awareness event on Wednesday, October 17 from 10:30AM ? 1pm that will educate students on the risks of drinking and driving. Many special guests will be in attendance to share information about this important topic.
Students will enjoy a ?mocktail? (non-alcoholic punch drink) and snacks while learning:
- How a DUI can affect one?s future
- The physical effects of alcohol on the body
- The risks of drinking and driving
- The dangers of distracted drivers
Guests at Wednesday?s event will include Dave Larson, owner of Vanda Racing, who will bring his race car to the SCC campus and speak to students about the dangers of underage drinking as well as drinking and driving. Larson is a member of the Governor?s Council on Highway Safety.
Other guests include representatives from Yellow Cab who will provide goodie bags and speak to students about transportation options -- such as calling a cab, rather than getting behind the wheel after drinking.
Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon will also be on campus to provide referral information and resources to students.
The Scottsdale Police Department, in conjunction with the Salt River Police Department, will be on hand to talk to students about the new drunk driving laws. They will also provide students with an opportunity to wear special goggles which simulate impairment, followed by a simulated arrest scenario?which should be a real eye-opener for all participants.
