April Strom received her bachelor's degree in mathematics (1997) and her master's degree in mathematics education (1998) from Texas Tech University. In August 1998, April began teaching mathematics for Glendale Community College in Glendale, AZ. She served as Assistant Department Chair from 2001-2005 while overseeing the department's tutoring and online instructional programs. In 2003, April returned to school to pursue a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (emphasis in mathematics education) from ASU. April transferred to Scottsdale Community College in August 2005 and continues to teach mathematics. As part of her doctorate experience, April also conducts research in mathematics education in conjunction with ASU professors and researchers. Her research interests include investigating secondary mathematics teachers' understanding of exponential functions. Her hobbies include playing the clarinet, listening to Native American flute music, watching Drum & Bugle Corps performances, reading and swimming.
