PRIORITY OF COMPUTER USE: Disabled students have PRIORITY on the Handicapped Station. Please limit your time on the scanner stations to 20 minutes.
LAB PHILOSOPHY: SCC lab staff strive to project an image of a helpful and pleasant environment where you may obtain assistance in computer and software usage. The lab staff also strive to project a feeling of professionalism in a quiet library-like atmosphere where you may work without undue disturbance. Please set pagers and cell phones to silent mode and take phone conversations outside.
Note: Please do not place pagers or cell phones on top of the computer case or monitor.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS OF THE LAB: You may expect friendly and courteous assistance from the lab assistants. The assistance will be of either a mechanical or technical nature and not that of an interpreter of what an individual instructor requires. The lab assistants will not do homework assignments for you. Each assistant will not be an expert in every language and software package that is taught. However, the lab will strive to provide assistants who are knowledgeable in both areas. Contact your instructor for issues that cannot be resolved by the lab staff.
LAB STAFF EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS: The lab staff expects courteous requests for help from students and an understanding that the lab assistants are not teachers, tutors, or experts in every aspect of software usage or programming languages. The lab staff expects you to have read and studied the assignment before coming to the lab and to have attempted the assignment before asking for help. You may not look at a sample of the finished assignment and expect the lab assistant to show you how to do it step by step. If you have missed class it is up to you to seek the help of your instructor.
5-MINUTE TIME LIMIT FOR ASSISTANCE: The lab assistants have a time limit of 5 minutes per student during busy times. It is important for the assistants to be available to all students who need their help. If you need more help than the lab is able to provide, seek additional help from your instructor and/or ask your instructor if his/her Department offers free individual tutoring.
FOOD/DRINKS: No Liquid, Food, or use of Tobacco Products (including chewing tobacco) is permitted in the computer lab area. These items may be placed on the table provided by the door.
Note: Water bottles or other beverages that have a secure screwed-on lid may be placed on the floor by the station you are working at.
CHILDREN: NO CHILDREN PLEASE! Insurance policies prohibit children in the computer lab area.
CLEAN-UP: Please help keep the computer lab and equipment neat and clean by picking up after yourself and placing any paper you may have used in the trash cans. There are trash cans for computer paper to be recycled and trash cans for all other trash.
