Transportation
You can get a copy of the Busbook at the SCC's Information Center. The Busbook contains information about bus routes, schedules, and fares. Finding bus routes near you home is usually pretty easy, but the times may not always be convenient. Also find information about the transit system at Valley Metro.
Riding the bus not convenient for you? How about getting your driver's licenses and buying a car? Remember, you have to figure how much a car costs including the tag and title, insurance, maintenance and fuel. Let your sponsor know you are considering buying a car. Owning a car can double your expenses. Before you head to the car dealership or start searching the classified ads, you need to get an Arizona driver's license.
You can drive with an International Driver License and your home country driver license, but it may be difficult to get car insurance without an Arizona license. To obtain an Arizona license, go to the nearest office of the Arizona Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicles Division (MVD), Driver License Information, (602) 255-0072. Make sure you carry your passport and your I-20 to satisfy the requirement for two forms of identification. Also, bring at least $25 to cover the fee. You can use check or cash. A vision test is required, so bring your glasses. Along with the vision test, you will be asked to take a written test and possibly a driving test based on information found in the Arizona Driver License Manual. Remember; NEVER drive a car in the United States without a valid driver license or current car insurance. It is against the LAW. |
