Art Becker is completing his 32nd year as a faculty member in the Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Department at Scottsdale Community College. During his tenure at SCC, Becker has coached both the Men?s Basketball and Men?s Tennis teams. Becker was appointed Director of Men?s Athletics in 1984.
A member of The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) since 1984, Becker has served as a member of the NACDA Executive Committee as a Junior/Community College representative as well as being a founding member of The National Alliance of Two Year Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA). He is a past President of NATYCAA. Coach Becker has served the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference in many capacities and is currently Conference Treasurer. He has served as NJCAA Region I Men?s Assistant Director and as Region I Director. In 2004 he was elected Vice President for Men for the NJCAA. In 2005 he was elected for a three year term as President of the NJCAA.
Becker has his Batchelor?s Degree (1964) and Master?s Degree (1975) from Arizona State University. He competed for the Sun Devils in Basketball and was selected to the ASU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990. He ranks as one of the all time scorers and rebounders for Sun Devils. After graduation Becker played AAU Basketball with the Goodyear Wingfoots of Akron, Ohio then moved to the American Basketball Association where he played with the Houston Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, Denver Rockets and New York Nets. He made the ABA All-Star Team in 1968 and 1972 and was a member of the ABA Championship Indiana Pacers in 1970.
He lives with Lynn, his wife of 42 years in Tempe, Arizona. The Beckers have four children all of whom played Division I Athletics. Daughter Tracy played tennis at Indiana. Son Mark played basketball at Arizona State University and professionally in Germany. Daughter Kristin played tennis at Iowa State. Son Brian played baseball and basketball at Scottsdale Community College and baseball at The University of Arizona and has spent eleven years in professional baseball.
