Hope 4 Kids International (H4KI) is a local Phoenix based non-profit organization that sponsors over 900 orphans in Uganda, Africa. Most of which have lost their parents to AIDS. H4KI assists in medical and dental care, education, mattresses and mosquito netting to help prevent malaria. Elizabeth Flynn, Orphan Program Director for H4KI, reports in Uganda between 70,000 and 110,000 children under five years of age in Uganda die annually due to malaria alone. This can be prevented by giving a child a mosquito net. These nets are saving lives. Even if we give one or two nets to one family they usually share a bed with another child so there can be up to 3 or 4 children under that one net. It is also important that we give these nets to the mothers that are pregnant because malaria leads to poor pregnancy outcomes, the baby can be born premature and very weak. according to Elizabeth Flynn.
Other successful projects students have been involved in are; 2007 raising $14,000 to purchase 560 goats and in 2006 collecting 7,000 pair of flip-flops all of which were distributed to H4KI Ugandan orphans. For more information on Hope 4 Kids International visit www.hope4kidsinternational.org.

COME ON AND "GET OUR GOAT!" - MARCH 2007
The Hospitality & Tourism Club students have completed their "Get Our Goat" Program. The program was to purchase goats for Ugandan orphans through Hope 4 Kids International. Special thanks to our corporate sponsors; Camelot Homes, Revolution Agency, Johnson International, wemaketime.com, 93.3 KDKB Radio "Everything that Rocks".
Giving an orphan a goat assists them in becoming self-reliant and is the equivalent of giving them a bank account which provides financial security and a pathway to further their education. We were able to raise $14,000.00 in the month of March! That equates to 560 goats! (Our goal was 500.) The student club received SCC's "Most Innovative Project" award for 2006-2007.
Thank you to everyone who participated! H4KI was in Uganda in April and distributed some goats with our funds. The pictures below were taken of some of the children who benefited from our program. Thank you for your support!

HOPE 4 KIDS INTERNATIONAL FLIP-FLOP DRIVE - APRIL 2006
SCC Hospitality Club was extremely successful in collecting 7,000 pairs of flip-flops for orphaned children in Uganda and Peru in the spring of 2006. Our original goal was only 500! Sincere thanks to our student body, SCC faculty and valley residents. The shoes were distributed in June and July and were very well received! Following are a few pictures of the distribution and my travels this summer:
UGANDA - AFRICA Look closely they are all wearing flip-flops!

TRUJILLO - PERU (Flip-flops had not arrived yet, but were on thier way!)
