Scholarships

The Faculty Senate of Scottsdale Community College established a $4500 endowed student scholarship with the Maricopa Foundation in 1995. It was determined by the Faculty Senate that the first award from the endowed fund (ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP) would be distributed in 1997-98. In addition, another scholarship (MEMBERSHIP DUES SCHOLARSHIPMEMBERSHIP DUES SCHOLARSHIP) was approved by the Senate. The initial award for this scholarship was also approved for distribution in 1997-98. Membersip is invited to participate in fundraising. A list of scholarship award winners is provided below. The following is the guidelines for each scholarship.

  1. The awarding of the scholarships to SCC students will be made by the established, SCC Scholarship Committee. The Committee should submit an annual report of awards to the Faculty Senate.
  2. One annual award of $500 will be made from the annual interest earned.
  3. Students may receive a Faculty Association Scholarship only once.
  4. Awards should be made on the following basis:
    1. Grade point average: Earned 3.5 G.P.A.
    2. Community service: Evidence of community involvement
    3. Accomplishments: Awards, recognitions, etc.

MEMBERSHIP DUES SCHOLARSHIP

  1. The awarding of the scholarships to SCC students will be made by the established, SCC Scholarship Committee. The Committee should submit an annual report of awards to the Faculty Senate.
  2. Funds for the scholarship are derived from the annual dues paid by SCC faculty who join the District Faculty Association. A portion of the total dues collected by the college and submitted to the District Faculty Association, are returned to the college. Twenty five percent of the SCC Faculty Association dues returned to the college may be used for SCC student scholarship funds. The amount may not exceed $500 per year. The first award (1997-98) was $400.
  3. Students may receive a Faculty Association Scholarship only once.
  4. Awards should be made on the following basis:
    1. Grade point average: Earned 3.5 G.P.A.
    2. Community service: Evidence of community involvement
    3. Accomplishments: Awards, recognitions, etc.

The Faculty Senate holds a walkathon each summer during Spring Fling to raise money for these scholarships. Participating walkers collect pledges from SCC and the community and then walk diligently the day of the event.
