Academic Recognition Committee

Purpose

To give public recognition to S.C.C. students who have achieved success in academic or service areas; to recognize the recipients of scholarships and participants in college-level competition; to plan an honors and awards program for students.

Membership

Faculty volunteer for appointment by College President

Meetings

6 per year (In 2003-2004, meetings will be held on Thursdays at 3:00 pm).

Administrative Council

Purpose

The council is comprised of SCC executives and the Faculty Senate President. The council participates in general planning and decision-making for SCC. It also serves as a means of information sharing.

Membership

Members include: Dean of Instruction, Dean of Students Services, Associate Dean of Instruction, Associate Deans of Student Services, Associate Dean of Technology, and Business Manager. Faculty Senate President serves in ex-officio capacity.

Meetings

Meetings are set by College President ( In 2003-2004, meetings will be held twice monthly on the first and third Thursday at 9:00 am).

Advisement Advisory Committee

Purpose

To enhance student success. The intent is to help students determine their current skills and knowledge levels and direct them to appropriate classes.

Membership

Membership is voluntary with student representatives appointed by the Dean of Student Services.

Meetings

Meetings are scheduled on a regular basis throughout the year.

Campus Beautification Committee

Purpose

To select artwork to be placed on campus for public view and to oversee placement of landscape and landscape modifications. Recommendations of the committee are forwarded to the College President for consideration.

Membership

Membership is voluntary. Student representatives are included.

Meetings are scheduled as required.

Commencement Committee

Purpose

To plan activities associated with the S.C.C. spring commencement, including selection and mentoring of student commencement speakers.

Membership

Membership is voluntary. Student representatives are included.

Curriculum Committee

Purpose

To evaluate curricula proposals at S.C.C.; to assure that a curriculum proposal is well-developed and that its supporting materials adequately document the proposal; to evaluate the impact of a curriculum proposal on the resources and other curricula of the college; to consider the recommendations of the Instructional Councils and Advisory Committees on the proposed curricula. Recommendations are forwarded to the District Curriculum Committee.

Membership

Membership consists of the Dean of Instruction, Division chairpersons or designee, and designated ex-officio members.

Meetings

Meets once per month during the academic year or as scheduled. (In 2003-2004, meetings will be held monthly on the second Thursday at 11:00 am).

Diversity Committee

Purpose

To coordinate and advocate college activities that promote diversity and multiculturalism.

Division Chairpersons Committee

Purpose

To discuss and evaluate issues relative to the duties of the division chairs and their impact on the division / college. This includes hiring staff, enrollment, curriculum, division reports and scheduling.

Membership

Each division is represented by the division chairperson, and other members include the Associate Deans of Instruction and Student Services.

Meetings

Meetings are held twice per month. (In 2003-2004, meetings will be held twice monthly on the first and third Thursday at 1:30 pm).

Educational Development Projects Committee

Purpose

To evaluate Educational Development Projects at S.C.C., and to recommend distribution of E.D.P. funds to S.C.C. faculty for educational projects not related to course work.

Employee Recognition Committee

Purpose

To provide for the continuous improvement and enhancement of employee recognition opportunities at S.C.C. The work with the Retirement Coordinator, to recognize all members of the college community upon their retirement from the system. To facilitate the nomination, selection and recognition of the S.C.C. ?Outstanding Employees of the Year? for all employee groups. To enhance employee recognition for years of service to the college in conjunction with the Administration and with the support of the District Office.

Membership

The outstanding employees of the year serve for one academic year following their selection. The MAT employee of the year will serve one year as chair and the following year as ex-officio advisor for the group.

Meetings will be held monthly or more frequently as required.

Enrollment Management Committee

Purpose

To establish enrollment management needs based on specific objectives targeting populations that reflect specific college goals.

Membership

Appointment by College President and Faculty Senate President.

Two to four meetings as required per year.

Faculty Assignment Committee

Purpose

To serve as a liaison between committee chairs and Faculty Senate for the purpose of assuring faculty participation in S.C.C. governance. To collect minutes from committee meetings and to schedule committee chair informational progress reports at Faculty Senate meetings throughout the year. To work in conjunction with the Administration in determining committee membership for the upcoming year, prior to the close of the current academic year.

Membership

Faculty Senate president, president-elect, and past-president. The past-president will chair the committee.

Meetings

Meetings will be held as needed. In 2003-2004, meetings will be held on Fridays at 2:00 pm).

Faculty Development Committee

Purpose

To coordinate faculty development and to promote effective teaching and learning. The committee works with the Faculty Development Coordinators to provide leadership roles in bringing instructional innovation, including technology to the faculty. The committee works actively to promote and support high quality instruction, to inspire faculty and germinate new teaching ideas.

Membership

One faculty representative from each division serving staggered two year terms. Faculty Development Coordinators and Dean of Instruction serve as ex-officio members.

Meetings

Meetings are held monthly or as additionally required. (In 2003-2004, meetings will be held monthly on the first Monday at 2:00 pm).

Faculty Senate

Purpose

To promote and facilitate the full participation of faculty in the determination of educational policy and the execution of that policy at S.C.C. To participate in college governance in conjunction with the administration, the district and the governing board.

Membership

Each division shall be represented in accordance with the number of faculty in the division: (0-10=1, 11-20=2, 21-30=3). Four senators will be elected at-large and two at-large positions will be held by the past president and current president. Members will serve for a term of two years.

Meetings

Meetings held monthly or more frequently if required. (In 2003-2004, meetings will be held monthly on the third Tuesday at 2:30 pm).

Faculty Staffing Committee

Purpose

To determine the staffing needs, review all requests to fill positions, ask for additional information and/or schedule presentations by those who wish to provide more detail to the committee. The committee forwards their recommendations to the Dean of Instruction for final staffing decisions.

Membership

Each academic division is represented with members appointed by the Faculty Senate President.

Meetings

Meetings are held as required primarily in the spring semester. (In 2003-2004, meetings will be held on Wednesdays at 3:00 pm).

Honors Advisory Committee

Purpose

The Honors Advisory Committee is responsible for developing and evaluating qualifications for the S.C.C. Honors Program, for initiating and implementing activities for honors students to promote fellowship and scholarship, and for assisting the Honors Coordinator in fulfilling District Honors Program requirements.

Membership

Honors Coordinator, honors faculty and 2 honors students

Meetings

Meetings are held at least once each semester and as needed in reference to policy recommendations. (In 2003-2004, meetings will be held monthly on Thursdays at 3:00 pm).

International Education Committee

Purpose

The committee is responsible for advising on and promoting international education on campus while assisting in the implementation of International Education Programs? Strategic Plan.

Membership

Faculty, staff, students and community organization representatives with an interest in International Education

Library Advisory Committee

Purpose

To provide a vehicle for faculty input into decisions affecting Library services. To discuss and promote ways in which the Library Division can better serve faculty and students.

Membership

Faculty members volunteer on basis on interest. An effort is made to have one faculty member from each division.

Several times per year (In 2003-2004, meetings will be held in the Fall and Spring during the first week of accountability).

Ocotillo Committee

Purpose

To coordinate the development of technology on the campus with emphasis on the enhancement of student learning and success.

Membership

Faculty representation from each division, administration from both instruction and student services.

Twice per month (In 2003-2004, meetings will be held on Wednesdays at 3:00 pm).

Outcomes Assessment Committee

Purpose

To define institutional outcomes, develop and monitor assessment methods at the course and program level.

Membership

The department chair or a designated representative from each department.

Meetings

Once per month (In 2003-2004, meetings will be held monthly on the fourth Thursday at 2:00 pm).

Purpose

To assist in the development , improvement, coordination and promotion of occupational education programs at S.C.C.

Scholarship Committee

Purpose

To review scholarship applications and to select qualified recipients for the S.C.C. scholarship program; to promote the scholarship program.

Membership

Voluntary membership based on interest.

Staff Development Committee

Purpose

To assist the Staff Development Coordinator in all efforts pertaining to increasing the effectiveness of employees; to work together with the SCC administration, the Faculty Development Committee, and the Faculty Development Coordinators to promote college-wide development opportunities; to develop an effective tool to communicate learning opportunities to employees.

Membership

Membership: At least one member fromMAT, PSA, M&O, Crafts, and College Safety selected by self-nomination and/or recommendation of the employee group presidents to serve a term of two years. A faculty member will be selected to serve on the committee. Chair to be elected by membership of the committee for a term of one year followed by one year as ex-officio advisor. The Staff Development Coordinator will be a permanent member of the committee and will serve as a liason between the Staff Development Committee and the Faculty Development Committee. A representative from the Employee and Organizational Learning Team (EOLT) will also serve as an ex-officio member.

Meetings

Meetings will be held monthly except during the summer.

Strategic Planning Committee

Purpose

The committee is responsible for developing and revising the college wide mission statement, values statement, strategic issues and goals.

Membership

College President, Committee chair (appointed by College President), Faculty Senate President, Faculty Senate President elect, Dean of Student Services, Dean of Instruction, Goal Champions, Information Technology representative, Business Manager, 1 Division Chair, 1 Ocotillo Committee Representative, 1 Assessment Committee Representative, 1 at large Faculty Member

Six times per year. (In 2003-2004, meetings will be held on Fridays at 1:30 pm).
