Connecting Communities and Sharing Cultures

We're looking for adventure seekers who value the art of storytelling and want to connect with indigenous peoples. Three SCC faculty are leading a group of 16-20 interested students to Queensland, Australia, where we'll live and work with an aboriginal community for two weeks. We'll spend a week on indigenous lands on Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world. After three nights in Sydney, we'll fly to Wellington, New Zealand, where we'll spend 2 nights before going on to New Plymouth, where we'll spend the rest of the tour exploring Maori arts and cultural exchange.

New Skills
Students will gain knowledge, understanding, and the connection that indigenous peoples have, through comparative studies in history, culture, and the arts. Each student will participate in the creation of Native American, Indigenous Australian, and Maori art forms. Students will also learn intercultural communication skills.

Approximate Cost
$3975 per student, including tuition and registration fees. $2000 deposit due April 1, 2005
