Commercial Music

Audio Production Technologies and Music Business:
The Scottsdale Community College Music Department offers an A.A.S. (Associate in Applied Science) and Certificate in Audio Production Technologies. Students completing this program will acquire skills preparing them for entry into the commercial music field. Some of these areas include sound recording/engineer, live sound reinforcement, audio editing, and computer-assisted song writing and arranging.

The A.A.S. in Music Business program is an innovative curriculum designed to prepare students for today?s music industry. The certificate and degree with a music business emphasis are designed for both the performing musician and the business student with limited performing experience. This program combines a flexible curriculum with an emphasis in business and marketing, along with music industry related courses and experiences.

SCC has a recording studio, computer workstation lab, and knowledgeable faculty with real-world experience. We foster a hands-on approach so prospective students can expect to apply their coursework in our recording studio and computer lab right away.

The Music Department is developing community partnerships with the goal of creating meaningful internships for students. Part of the curriculum requires students to fulfill 80 internship hours towards the end of their program. With partners like Fender Musical Instruments Corporation and other local studios and venues, SCC is committed to exploring ways to open doors for our students.

Another exciting opportunity available to students is our Music Indusry Club (MIC). The club?s mission is to promote positive relationships between SCC students and the surrounding Phoenix area Music Industry in order to create real-world, experiential opportunities for its membership on campus and in the community. All students are eligible for membership. Some of the current projects include developing a website dedicated to the MIC, promotional events for SCC bands, a compilation CD, and community service events.

We invite you to visit our campus and apply to our program.
