Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
An Academic Competitiveness Grant provides up to $750 maximum ($375 per semester) for the first year of undergraduate study and up to $1,300 maximum ($650 per semester) for the second year of undergraduate study The ACG is only awarded during the first and second year of undergraduate study.
First year undergraduate students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.0 and complete at least 24 credit hours towards their program of study to qualify for the ACG during their second year of undergraduate study.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the ACG Grant you must meet the following criteria.
In order to qualify for the grant you must meet ALL of the following requirements:
Ø U.S. Citizen;
Ø Completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and be Pell eligible;
Ø Enrolled full-time (12 credits +) in a degree program;
AND
Ø First year student who has not been previously enrolled in an undergraduate program as a regular student while enrolled in high school and graduated high school after January 1, 2006.
OR
Second year student who has attended an undergraduate program and completed 24 credit hours with a GPA of 3.0 or better and graduated high school after January 1, 2005. Note: If any of the credits were earned at another college you are required to attach an unofficial copy of your transcript and have official transcripts sent to SCC?s Admissions and Records Office for evaluation.
You must have completed one of the following programs in High School (see below for details):
Ø State scholars program
Ø Completed a rigorous high school program
Ø Completed two or more Advanced Placement (AP) courses or two or more International Baccalaureate (IB) courses and achieved a passing score on the exam
Qualifying High School Programs
In order to qualify for the AC grant a student must have completed a recognized rigorous secondary school program of study. You must have an official from your high school complete the attached verification form and submit it with your high school transcript to verify this requirement has been met. The school must verify that you meet one of the following:
Completed the State Scholars Initiative Requirements (includes ALL the following courses):
4 years of English
3 years of Math (including Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry)
3 years of Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
3 ½ years of Social Studies
2 years of the same foreign language other than English
Courses completed with passing grades
Completed a rigorous high school program (includes ALL the following courses):
4 years of English
3 years of Math (including Algebra I and a higher level course such as
Algebra II, Geometry, or Data Analysis and Statistics)
3 years of Science (including one year each of at least two of the following
courses:Biology, Chemistry or Physics)
3 years of Social Studies
1 year of a foreign language other than English
Completed Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses and test scores:
2 Advanced Placement (AP) with a 3 or high on the AP exam
or
2 International Baccalaureate (IB) courses and a 4 or higher on the IB exam
If you meet the above qualifications you may be eligible to receive the ACG Grant. Download and complete the "Student Verification Form", return the completed form to the Financial Aid Office. You will also need to send the High School Verification form to your High School for completion.
