Please observe the following Civility Code for online courses.

 

Instructors

Instructors are expected to be professional, courteous, respectful and empathic to students. They will:

  • Begin and end the online class on the assigned dates
  • Be prepared for each weekly set of requirements
  • Be available via email for individual consultation to address student issues
  • Respond to students’ questions and concerns within 24 hours (during the work/school week)
  • Provide academic feedback and graded assignments by Wednesday of each week
  • Clarify assignments and inform students of any adjustments to the class schedule

Students

Students are expected to be reflective, courteous, respectful and emphatic to classmates, instructor and other college staff assisting in their learning. Students are expected to arrive on time for class and remain until class has ended. The instructor should be notified in advance if there is a need to leave early. Students will be expected to:

  • Comply with policies found in the SCC Catalog and SCC Student Handbook
  • Begin and end the course on the required dates
  • Be prepared for weekly assignments and activities
  • Participate in any class discussions and/or group activities
  • Follow instructions carefully and complete assignments.
  • Keep up with and turn in assignments by the due dates listed in the syllabus
  • Put forth their best efforts
  • Ask questions when they don’t understand any assignment, instruction or content
  • Maintain knowledge of their grade status
  • Contact instructor right away about concerns or situations that interfere with their success in class
Communication Etiquette

Students

Remember that you are not sending emails or text-messages to your friends. Please construct your communications in this course as you would in any professional environment.

  • Be concise and to the point
  • Always include the course name, GBS205, in the subject line of your emails
  • Use proper spelling, grammar & punctuation. Do not use abbreviations and emoticons. For example, do not use “U” for “you”
  • Respond swiftly to any issue or question raised by the instructor
  • Do not attach unnecessary files
  • Use proper structure & layout. Review the Assignment Format requirements.
  • Do not write in ALL CAPITALS
  • Please review the email before you send it
  • Do not forward chain letters to instructors or classmates
  • Don't send emails containing threatening, defamatory, offensive, racist or obscene remarks
  • When submitting assignments, always include a CC to yourself
