ESL Course Sequence Block Schedule
Students are placed in a corresponding academic block according to their level of English. The English level is determined by their Combined English Language Skills Assessment (CELSA) and/or Assessment of Skills for Successful Entry and Transfer (ASSET) test scores. Each academic block targets: listening and speaking, writing reading, grammar, and comprehension. The classes from one block or semester prepare the student for the next block. Progressive blocks of English can be followed for two years, although a student may advance to a higher level depending on CELSA scores. A student may arrive at SCC with virtually no language skills in English, and in two years, be prepared to take regular classes as well as transitional classes. The course diagram below shows the logical progression of classes.
